HORSE RACING
April 11, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 2 furlongs, Purse $36,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Chatty Gal - Tepid chalk after running well in her career debut; adds Lasix, slight improvement is enough to graduate today.
La Misma - FTS from Pearson was prepping in Phoenix, debuts in Arcadia; a win here is like a stakes for this Turf Paradise barn.
Long Shot - Carbella
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 4-year-olds and up
Seastate - Like the turn back in distance where Blanc can settle early and make one sweeping move; Inda is a more than capable trainer.
Owen Roe O'Neill - Two good thirds in hillside turf course races; suspect will be overbet due to connections, one of the live ones.
Long Shot - Lemon
Race 3 - 7 furlongs, Purse $34,000, Claiming $32,000, 4-year-olds
Jealous Profit - Better than looked win because he had to run down a moderate early pace; should see more cheese to do his thing.
Mesa Magic - Speedball will try to bottom out this field, his only chance of victory; small, but subtle, class drop has to help.
Long Shot - Town Thief
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $50,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
Warrensglidedtime - Ran a strong second to stakes quality Idiot Proof last time; he won on Cushion track, suspect he can turf today.
Brenin Gwalia - Tepid chalk ran a much improved second race in the U.S. to graduate; repeat effort will put him right there again.
Long Shot - Gold Spirit
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $10,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Kleven's Verbatim - Chance to repeat facing a similar group to her last out win; she has enough back class where she shouldn't bounce.
Court Seeker - Like the Mig choosing to ride first off the claim by Levine; was favored over Kleven's Verbatim in last, they duel again.
Long Shot - Sexy Operator
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $34,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Company Secret - Paasch charge running first time for a claiming price; she has tried stakes quality fillies, faces none such today.
Looney Boone - Mullins filly did a classic pop and stop in SoCal debut for new barn; suspect Mullins will have her tighter for this.
Long Shot - Torikins
Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $55,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Paparazzi Charm - If you like bombs, and who doesn't, throw this 20/1 in; she was pocketed in the stretch and never got to extend herself.
Musical High - A lot has been going right for the Gallagher barn; filly showed lots of promise last year, gets Espinoza for season debut.
Long Shot - Usk Poppy
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds
Hewitts - This FTS has made every clocker report, so expect a short price; like the outside post in debut, she can clock those to her inside.
Beau Smoke - Logical chalk ran a better than looked race in last; dueled thru crazy fractions, then got beat by stakes winner Try to Fly.
Long Shot - Mobo
Best Bet - Seastate (race 2)
Santa Anita Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/6/$30.20; Long Shots, 9/1/$4.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00
Santa Anita Totals - 1,253/332/$2,177.60; Long Shots, 627/71/$942.00; Best Bets, 72/30/$122.20
