April 19, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 2 furlongs, Purse $36,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Wise Mandate - Logical chalk lost to a sensational looking 2-YO, Sea of Pleasure; if he breaks OK, he figures to be awful tough to catch.
Soldier's Creed - FTS from Headley barn has been working fast and often in the a.m.; Atkinson is capable and adds parimutuel value.
Long Shot - Leonardo C.S.
Race 2 - 2 furlongs, Purse $36,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Quite Beautiful - FTS from Stute has been working fast and has win early pedigree; interesting that Solis has taken the call.
Chatty Gal - Part of the favored entry from Dominguez, she was a beaten chalk last time out; barn rider Bautista opted for this half.
Long Shot - Redrounder
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $55,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up
Unusual Treasure - Has some early lick and a good post to utilize that; will be aided with the turf rail out 15 feet today.
Stephen Bruce - Dead late closer will need some early pace to become most effective; interesting rider switch, will help the price.
Long Shot - Ballistic Heat
Race 4 - 1 mile, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Light of the World - O'Neill has been doing well with the new Tommy Town stable; Isais is their stable rider, not a typical O'Neill choice.
General Bueno - Many close but no cigar finishes in his brief career; like that eventual leading rider Espinoza chose to ride this one.
Long Shot - Star Nicholas
Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds
Larry by the Lake - Ran a good turf race two back, let's see if he can improve upon that; like the connections of Flores and Sadler.
Conclave - Speedy sort making his first start off the claim by Spawr; could have an edge in a paceless race if he grabs and easy lead.
Long Shot - Roosevelt
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $28,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Victim of Love - Speedball claimed by Carava who must deal with the quick Olympic Miler to his inside; Baze rides this horse well.
Chauncey - Like the turn back in distance into a sprint which should have a very fast early pace; Isias will stalk and pounce late.
Long Shot - Celtic Fable
Race 7 - 7 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds
Euroglide - Won one of the most impressive looking MSW races of the meeting; didn't beat much, but did it in such facile fashion.
Robbos Courage - Was rushed back in second start going long after a solid debut MSW win; Dollase stepped back, adding blinkers on.
Long Shot - Pay the Vig
Race 8 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Proud Cecy - Key is Espinoza exits others to ride this professional MSW; set fast fractions in last, should relax nicely back on sod.
Storming Slew - Dead late closer will be heard from screaming down the lane late; slow meet for Mulhall, but she is very capable.
Long Shot - Powerofvoodoo
Best Bet - Euroglide (race 7)
Santa Anita Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$23.40; Long Shots, 8/1/$25.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals - 1,349/354/$2,308.40; Long Shots, 675/74/$1,020.80; Best Bets, 78/31/$125.20
