Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, Oct. 24
October 23, 2013 - 8:35 pm
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Eltoninadress - Has been a consistent, albeit cheaper, claiming horse; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
4 Long Legged Lovely - Steve Knapp has an MO of doing well with class droppers; this one clearly fits that bill.
Long Shot - 3 Psalm Sixteen
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $33,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Golden Itiz - This is a red flag drop by John Sadler; still, if he’s at 90 percent he is the fastest horse in the race.
6 Motown Men - When Mike Mitchell is involved, you don’t draw a line thru him; sliding down the claiming ladder too.
Long Shot - 2 Half Strike
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
1 Amy Jane - Like the cut back in distance from the red hot Peter Miller barn; don’t like the rail, but like the connections.
6 Bijoux - Favorite FTS from the respected John Sadler barn; key vote comes from top rider Rafael Bejarano.
Long Shot -7 Galehorn
Race 4 - 1 mile, Purse $30,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 2-year-olds
6 Still Unbroken - Speedball stretches out around 2-turns; interesting rider switch to the capable Aaron Gryder.
7 Pantera Rojo - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming;
Long Shot - 1 Anythingtogeteven
Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $31,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Highly Rated - Been away nearly a year, but respect Carla Gaines barn; key vote from Rafael Bejarano only helps.
9 Lilly’s Perfect - If draws in off the AE, figures to be very dangerous; poor start really hampered her in last.
Long Shot - 5 Secret Cove
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Hurry Home Cover - Like when horses win and run a slower Beyer speed figure; shows me they may have more in the gas tank.
6 Bob Consultation - Has an underappreciated resume on organic dirt; offers good value at 5/1 odds for a repeat.
Long Shot - 4 Russel’s Run
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $51,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
12 Joeandbetty’sbaby - Must draw in off the AE list; like the parking lot post for going down the hillside turf course.
7 Tribal Spy - Outran her 51/1 odds when second in the Unzip Me; you may not like playing her at close to 7/2 morning line.
Long Shot - 10 Zanbo
Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Kevin’s Kool Kat - Another Mike Mitchell live one on the card; ran a solid second in last overcoming a tough 12 post.
7 Lethal Miss - Dead late closer got a fast pace in last to set up her rally; will again be at the mercy of the early pace.
Long Shot - 2 Patriot C H
Best Bet - 1 Amy Jane (race 3)
Santa Anita Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/4/$35.60; Long Shots, 9/2/$27.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals - 274/68/$469.40; Long Shots, 131/21/$264.40; Best Bets, 15/6/$23.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #2 Occasional View (2/1) in race 4 at Keeneland. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Trail Walker was scratched at Belmont Park. Stats - 165/110/$906.30; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
