Jets rookie QB Bryce Petty bashed by New Yorkers for taste in pizza

Rookies and mistakes are as intertwined as New York and pizza.

New York Jets rookie quarterback Bryce Petty learned that the hard way recently when he took to Twitter to praise a national pizza chain and in the process incurred the wrath of many New Yorkers who were offended by his taste in pie.

"The fact that you can order @dominos by texting a pizza emoji is awesome... #welldoneMrDominoWellDone," Petty posted Thursday.

After getting ripped by New York pizza aficianados for the next hour, Petty returned to Twitter to apologize and the Texas native laughed about the lashing he received following Saturday's preseason win over the Giants.

"Ah, man. Can you believe that?" he said, smiling, via NJ.com. "Oh my God. I'm just a small-town kid from Waco, and all I was saying was there was a commercial that was saying that you can text an emoji to Domino's (to order a pizza). And it was like, 'Oh, gosh.'"You know what? Out of all the things that I could be grilled on, I think pizza is pretty funny. It just shows you how passionate people are about pizza. You know what? Those are my friends. Because if you're passionate about food, we're going to get along."

When asked what was his preferred pizza in college, Petty had to admit it was the chain in question."The go-to is Domino's," he said. "I don't think it's bad pizza. I think it's great pizza."I guess I'm learning here. If you guys want to tweet out your favorites, I'll be sure to look at them."

To avoid further alienating New Yorkers, Petty also should probably never eat pizza with a fork, put ketchup on a hot dog or say his favorite New York City Italian restaurant is Olive Garden. Although we do love their breadsticks.
