Logandale, Laughlin will host events
A rodeo twin feature is on tap this weekend in Southern Nevada.
The rodeos are 160 miles apart, but one is in the afternoon and the other is in the evening.
The Clark County Fair and Rodeo in Logandale opens tonight and runs through Sunday. The Xtreme Bulls Tour will be Saturday and Sunday afternoons at the Laughlin Events Center.
The events are part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
The Logandale event, the ninth stop of the 21-city ProRodeo Tour, features a $250,000 purse.
A year ago, Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Texas, won the all-around title, which helped propel him to a fourth PRCA all-around world championship. He leads all-around standings this year with $46,848.
Logandale brothers Jay and Randon Adams are 18th and 19th in the team roping season standings. Jay is a header and Randon a heeler.
Matt Shiozawa, a part-time Las Vegas resident and former Moapa Valley High School athlete, is 17th in calf roping.
They are expected to compete in the event.
The combination of the Logandale and $50,000 Xtreme Bulls events should draw the best riders not competing full time on the Professional Bull Riders' top tour.
Among the bull riders entered in the Nevada rodeos are Jake Wade of Alamo and Colin McTaggart of Las Vegas. Wade is 28th in the PRCA and McTaggart 32nd.
• INJURY REPORT -- Matt Austin, the 2005 PRCA world champion bull rider, is out until the 2008 season begins Oct. 1.
Injuries ended his season midway through last year's National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.
Austin of Wills Point, Texas, had surgery Dec. 1 but further injured a gimpy right knee working on his family ranch and had more surgery April 3.
• PBR-- Kasey Hayes of Liberal, Kan., won the Ty Murray Invitational in the Professional Bull Riders event April 1 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Money leader Justin McBride of Elk City, Okla., was ninth.
• WORLD CUP JUMPING -- The FEI World Cup Jumping Final featuring the world's top equestrian athletes will take place April 18 to 22 at the Thomas & Mack Center. The event also will feature the World Cup Dressage Final.
