Madden skills: Man applies for coaching job based on video game prowess
Sports fans often act like they know enough about the game to coach it.
They don’t usually go further than screaming at their TV, but Christopher McComas did.
McComas has no real-world coaching experience and is a systems integration specialist at Marshall University, but he applied for the head football coaching position at the University of North Dakota based on his performance on Madden NFL.
After seeing on Twitter that UND was looking for a new head coach, McComas wrote a letter expressing interest in the position and providing his qualifications.
(His qualifications are that he has successfully coached teams to victory on Madden NFL and NCAA Football.)
“(I’ve) put together several programs that completely dominated the recruiting scene and college football, winning several national titles with Marshall University,” he wrote.
McComas then explains his coaching philosophy, which he provides in detail in an attached PowerPoint presentation. His philosophy essentially boils down to two things: “chuck the pigskin” and “never punt.”
Ever.
He said his football philosophy is “basically an attacking one.”
“Theoretically how many times do you think a team can pass in a game? Challenge accepted,” he wrote.
So far, UND hasn’t reached out with a job offer.
