Substitute fighter knocks off Slice

The fighters in the main event on Saturday's nationally televised EliteXC mixed martial arts card weren't quite who the fans were expecting.

The result in Sunrise, Fla., was an even bigger surprise.

Ken Shamrock had to withdraw from his heavyweight bout against Kimbo Slice after suffering a cut above his left eye earlier Saturday. So little-known Seth Petruzelli was called in as a late substitute.

Petruzelli (11-4) promptly flattened the popular Slice (3-1), quickly knocking him to the floor and following with a series of punches before referee Todd Waugh stopped the bout after 14 seconds.

In another highly anticipated bout, Las Vegan Gina Carano (7-0) earned a unanimous decision over Kelly Kobold (16-3-1), winning by scores of 30-27, 29-28 and 30-27.

Kobold got a second-round takedown, but in the third round, Carano landed several kicks to the face that ultimately opened a cut over Kobold's right eye.

Roy Nelson, a Cimarron-Memorial High School graduate, was knocked out at 3:14 of the second round in his heavyweight bout against Andrei Arlovski.

Nelson controlled the first round against Arlovski, but the former UFC champion's speed during a second-round flurry was too much to overcome.
