Gafforini aims for double at Bullring’s Fall Classic

Scott Gafforini's Super Late Model stock car will have graphics tonight supporting the new $1 million cash display at Binion's, where you can have your photo taken with the money.

Gafforini will be content if, after this weekend's annual Fall Classic at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's Bullring, he can pose with $7,500 that he will be able to take home.

The track's two-time and reigning Super Late Models champion can do that if he wins Saturday's 150-lap main event that pays $5,000 and adds $2,500 for winning the 75-lap Late Models feature.

If he pulls off the double, he'll be the first to do it in the event's 20-year history.

"The car I won the championship with this year is really a Late Model, but we added weight to it to make it legal for Late Models," he said. "Our Super Late Model will be the one that John Spilotro drove this year."

Tonight's racing includes heat races and qualifying for all divisions, including Modifieds and Legends Cars. Features will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday.

One of the drivers entered in the 75-lap Modified race is 50-year-old Trevor Boys. The Calgary, Alberta, native competed in 102 NASCAR Winston Cup Series races between 1982 and 1993, when he posted two top-10 finishes.
