Legends Cars from far and wide ready to race at Bullring

Race teams from Alaska to Florida have traveled to Las Vegas Motor Speedway to compete in this weekend's 600 Racing Legends Cars Nationals at the Bullring.

Legends Cars are five-eighths-scale replicas of 1940s race cars powered by 120-horsepower Yamaha motorcycle engines. The nearly 300 teams are divided into Masters, Pro and Semi-pro categories based on age or skill level.

Jeremiah Wagner, 14, is the top entry from Las Vegas. This year's Bullring champion in the Legends Semi-pro category is ranked fourth nationally and trails leader John Stancill of North Carolina by 18 points.

Qualifying is today with championship races scheduled for Saturday. Racing is scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to around 10 p.m. each day.

DRAG RACING -- About 900 racers from the Southwest and West Coast are competing in the NHRA Pacific Division E.T. Finals at the speedway's dragstrip. Drivers compete as individuals and for their respective tracks.
