Volunteers needed for April’s NFL Draft in Las Vegas
Up to 2,500 volunteers are needed to give a hand during the upcoming 2020 NFL draft.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority on Monday started the process of seeking volunteers for upcoming special events, including April’s draft.
The organization, which markets tourism for Southern Nevada, has developed an online Rosterfy portal to register volunteers.
“With an ever-growing roster of championship sports and special events coming to Las Vegas, it’s prime time for local residents to get involved and be part of the action,” said Lisa Motley, director of sports marketing and special events for the LVCVA. “This is a great opportunity to showcase our tremendous community pride and for locals to be an integral part of a variety of extremely exciting contests and special events.”
More than 800 already have registered to volunteer.
The LVCVA listed the NFL Draft Experience, NASCAR races, the Las Vegas Bowl, the National Finals Rodeo and the Pac-12 Football Championship game among the events for which it would seek volunteers. The draft is scheduled April 23-25, and most of the activity will be centered around Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, with the main stage set up near the Caesars Forum and the Linq Promenade and a red-carpet walk on a platform in the man-made lake fronting Bellagio.
Maria Phelan, a spokeswoman for the LVCVA, said volunteers will act as ambassadors for the NFL Draft Experience by representing the city and the NFL in all fan-facing activities in and around draft activation locations.
Phelan said the NFL Draft Experience activation areas will be divided into zones with up to eight zones planned for the 2020 draft. Volunteers will be assigned to work in a specific zone. There will be three shifts scheduled per volunteer. Shifts will run five to six hours each and each shift will have 300-350 volunteers scheduled.
Another 120 volunteers will be selected to be team captains. Team captains will also work three shifts running about 6½ hours each.
Once individuals have registered through the portal, they’ll be notified as volunteer opportunities open.
