NFL Network commentator arrested after allegedly soliciting prostitute

Warren Sapp, a Hall of Fame defensive lineman and commentator for the NFL Network, has been terminated from the sports network after he allegedly solicited a prostitute and was arrested Monday morning in Phoenix.

“Warren Sapp’s contract has been terminated and he no longer works for NFL Network,” said a statement from Alex Riethmiller, spokesman for the NFL Network.

Earlier on Monday, the network said Sapp had been suspended indefinitely without pay “pending the outcome of ongoing police investigation.” Sapp had been an analyst at the NFL Network since 2008.

Officer Calbert Gillett of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Phoenix confirmed that Sapp had been arrested. Sapp was transported to the Maricopa County Jail and booked on charges of soliciting prostitution and two counts of assault, both misdemeanor offenses.

According to TMZ Sports, which broke the news, Sapp, 42, got into an argument with two women at a downtown Phoenix hotel over money, and the fight turned physical, with the two women sustaining minor injuries. Sapp covered Super Bowl XLIX in Phoenix for the NFL Network on Sunday.

The former Buccaneers star and “Dancing With the Stars” alum was charged with domestic battery in 2010, but the charges were dropped. He was also arrested for alleged domestic battery in 2014 in Miami.

Only a few weeks ago, another sports analyst, CBS Sports’ Greg Anthony was charged with soliciting a prostitute. The former NBA player was suspended by CBS Sports and Turner Sports after his arrest on Jan. 16 and has since apologized for the “lapse of judgment.”
