River Cats’ three-run eighth inning secures win over 51s

The Las Vegas 51s allowed three runs in the eighth inning, losing to the Sacramento River Cats 6-4 Sunday in Sacramento, Calif.

With the score tied at 3, Kurt Suzuki had an RBI double for Sacramento (10-6), and J.J. Furmaniak followed with a double to score Suzuki.

Jason Stokes then singled to drive in Furmaniak and make it 6-3.

Mitch Jones homered for the 51s (10-6) to lead off the ninth, but reliever Marcus McBeth retired the next three batters.

Las Vegas opened the scoring in the second inning when Ken Huckaby's two-out single brought home Delwyn Young.

The 51s made it 2-0 in the third when Tony Abreu led off with a double, then came around to score on a James Loney double.

Jason Stokes homered for Sacramento in the bottom of the third, and the River Cats added a run in the fourth to tie it at 2.

Andy LaRoche's RBI single put Las Vegas up 3-2 in the fifth, but Furmaniak scored on a sacrifice in the seventh to tie the game again.

The two teams meet again today at 7:05 p.m.
