Solo homer in 12th inning sends 51s to loss at Salt Lake

Brandon Wood hit a one-out home run in the 12th inning off Luis Gonzalez to give the Salt Lake Bees a 6-5 victory over the 51s on Friday in a Pacific Coast League game at Salt Lake City.

Las Vegas has lost each of its first two games by one run.

The 51s' bullpen blew a two-run lead in the ninth and a one-run lead in the 10th.

Las Vegas took a 5-4 lead in the 10th on Delwyn Young's double that scored Andy LaRoche, who had reached on an infield single with one out.

But 51s reliever Mark Alexander walked the first two hitters in the bottom of the inning, and catcher Ken Huckaby's throwing error on a pickoff attempt allowed the tying run to score.

In the ninth, Alexander hit a batter and gave up three hits, including a two-out, two-run single by Mike Eylward that tied the score 4-4.

Alexander gave up three runs on three hits and two walks in two innings. The 51s used five pitchers.

Designated hitter Mitch Jones led Las Vegas' 12-hit attack with a two-run homer in the sixth and a two-run double in the eighth. Young went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

The teams will resume their four-game series at 1:05 p.m. today.
