PICKING THE GAMES

So begins my unofficial weekly chore of picking Mountain West Conference basketball games against the spread. Please feel free to offer your own thoughts and picks, because if it’s one thing I want more than anything, it’s more negative comments.

Saturday’s games:

Utah (plus 5) at San Diego State: The Aztecs are third nationally in scoring defense at 55.1 points against. Utah center Luke Neville is the league’s best player right now. Jim Boylen secretly wants to grab the microphone at Cox Arena and scream at people. San Diego State wins, but doesn’t cover. PICK: Utah

UNLV (minus 3.5) at Texas Christian: I would be worried for the Rebels if I didn’t have such clear images of how Lon Kruger sliced and diced Jim Christian up in an NCAA Tournament game last March when the latter was coaching Kent State. PICK: UNLV

BYU (minus 10) at Colorado State: The Cougars score more than Pamela Anderson. PICK: BYU

Air Force (plus 13) at New Mexico: A tough one. The Falcons aren’t near the threat they have been of late, but can Steve Alford stop whining to officials long enough to coach the Lobos to an easy win? Hmmm. PICK: NEW MEXICO

Record to date: 0-0

The next time you will see this record at .500 or above: Never.
