Postcard from London: Highest point in town is simply divine

You are looking at St. Paul’s Cathedral, where I and certain journalists from across the world have gathered the last few weeks to pray for compelling Olympic storylines, strong Internet service and a Happy Meal that costs less than $30. The site was founded way back in 604 AD, or just around when Queen Elizabeth II was born. St. Paul’s sits at the top of Ludgate Hill, the highest point in London. The present church dates to the 17th century and was part of a rebuilding project following the Great Fire of London. Memorial services have been held in it for the likes of the Duke of Wellington and Winston Churchill, who probably couldn’t help himself and jumped right out of that coffin to give his own eulogy. Some days, an actor portraying architect Sir Christopher Wren gives tours. I was hoping for Ricky Gervais.
