TONIGHT’S MWC PICKS/CELEBRITY GUEST INCLUDED

An important note: After stumbling to a 4-8 record against the spread and knowing the millions (O.K., two people) who often peruse this space in search of important angles before placing bets, I thought it a good idea to offer others an opportunity to pick games.

This way, there is a chance I won’t be the only one looking like a buffoon.

Today, we are joined by UNLV/sports gaming beat writer Matt Youmans of the R-J.

Matt and I are in Provo for the Rebels-Brigham Young game tonight, and I just received a call from him wondering when the picks would be up and available. He apparently can’t wait to get my insight on things.

So here we go:

Wyoming (plus-5.5) at Texas Christian: Come on. Is there any way we would pick against the Horned Frogs a day after the 43rd President of the United States returns home to his native state? This one is for you, W.

UNLV (plus 8.5) at Brigham Young: I was going with the Rebels until I learned Matt and R-J MMA beat writer/blogger extraordinaire Adam Hill ate at Chick-fil-A not once, but twice today at a Provo mall. You can’t have that much of a good thing and also expect fate to shine on the Rebels. Also, Adam helps me coach a youth basketball team called the Irish, and his usually intelligent pregame analysis that might aid our pick wouldn't be useful today, given he is preparing for our battle against the mighty Bulls on Saturday.

New Mexico (plus-4.5) at San Diego State: This is one of those times when I think too much, which is pretty much a bad thing in all cases except when it comes to replacing a struggling U-10 pitcher on my daughter’s softball team. But the Aztecs have been nails at home, and isn't this line just begging you to side with SDSU?
