WANT TO BET I GO 2-2?

If this were baseball, I’d be a Hall of Famer. Just can’t stop hitting .500. It has been that way for a week now with these Mountain West Conference basketball picks, convincing me to continue selecting games as a solo act.

Sure, the overall record is still a tad lousy, but once I tied the family dog over four weekday games, my selections just took off.

All the way to dead-flat average.

Let’s see if I continue the trend Saturday:

UTAH (minus-6) at WYOMING: Lost amid all the terrible defense is this: The Cowboys are 10-0 in Laramie this season, probably because it takes at least a half for opponents to figure out they need to play the entire 40 minutes before being allowed to leave town.

MY PICK: Wyoming

UNLV (plus-4) at NEW MEXICO: The Lobos have won four league games by an average score of 78-55 and have covered all eight conference matchups this season. This line makes as much sense as Christian Bale giving Michael Phelps advice on public relations.

MY PICK: New Mexico

TEXAS CHRISTIAN (minus 1.5) at COLORADO STATE: TCU won the first meeting 81-67 and I’ll give you 45 minutes to discover one reason things will be different this time. O.K., I’ll give you one second.

MY PICK: TCU.

AIR FORCE (plus-19) at SAN DIEGO STATE: The Aztecs haven’t had a season series sweep of the Falcons since 2003, but to miss one here would mean suffering of the worst losses in school history. But laying 19 with an ill Lorrenzo Wade?

MY PICK: Air Force.

OVERALL RECORDS

Me: 12-19.

Guest celebrities:

Matt Youmans, UNLV basketball beat writer for the R-J: 1-2.

Bridget Graney, my 7-year old daughter: 3-1.

Coin flip: 1-3.

Ellie May, the family dog: 2-2.
