UNLV beats Creighton, 3-1, in chilly Omaha
March 31, 2014 - 6:01 pm
UNLV pitchers shut down Creighton and the Rebels earned a 3-1 victory in cold weather in Omaha, Neb., on Monday.
The night game was moved up to 4 p.m. to beat the cold, but 30 mph winds still dropped the wind chill below freezing by the seventh inning. Starting pitcher Kenny Oakley allowed one run on three hits and struck out nine in eight innings to win his second game. Reliever Brayden Torres struck out one and earned his sixth save.
UNLV (20-8/9-3 Mountain West) is ranked No. 19 by Perfect Game and No. 25 by Baseball America. The Rebels begin at three-game series at Fresno State on Friday.
