UNLV golfers unseated

The UNLV women's golf team jumped one spot in the final round of the Mountain West Conference Championships, shooting 27-over-par 311 Saturday in the third round to finish fourth in St. George, Utah.

UNLV, the three-time defending champion, finished at 96-over 948, well behind winner Texas Christian, which shot 13-over 297 for a 51-over 903 total.

Brigham Young, which shot 20-over 304 Saturday, finished a shot behind the Horned Frogs in second.

UNLV freshman Natasha Krishna shot 5-over 76 to tie for fourth individually at 13-over 226, and Seema Sadekar (80) tied for 13th at 20-over 233.

New Mexico's Jodi Ewart won the individual title, shooting 1-over 72 for a 7-over 220 total, one shot ahead of TCU's Valentine Derrey.

The Rebels now must wait to see if they get an at-large berth to the NCAA regional tournaments, set for May 10 to 12.

• UNLV TRACK AND FIELD -- The Rebels posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 100-meter dash to cap the two-day UNLV Invitational at Myron Partridge Stadium.

Lauren Johnson won the 100 in 11.9 seconds, followed by Meia Tezeno and Tanesha Carr. Tezeno was second in the 100 hurdles.

Aja Evans won the shot put at 48 feet, 8 1/2 inches, Olivia Raya won the discus at 131-1, and Monique Humphries took the hammer throw at 151-7 1/2.

Other winners were Jennifer Shearer (1,500 meters, 5,000 meters), Ashley Patin (400 hurdles) and Carr (javelin).

• UNLV SOFTBALL -- The Rebels committed three errors in the top of the seventh inning, allowing four runs to help San Diego State to a 5-0 victory at Eller Media Stadium.

Three of the Aztecs' seventh-inning runs were unearned.

UNLV (31-19, 6-2 Mountain West Conference) managed just three hits against San Diego State starter Christina Ross, who had 12 strikeouts and two walks.

• UNLV BASEBALL -- At Corvallis, Ore., the Rebels and No. 9 Oregon State were rained out, setting up a doubleheader today.

• CCSN BASEBALL -- At Salt Lake City, the Community College of Southern Nevada split with Salt Lake Community College, winning 6-2 and losing 3-1.

In the opener, Chase Leavitt went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Jeff Gonzales also went 2-for-2 for the Coyotes (36-15, 26-10 Scenic West Athletic Conference).

Starter Ryan Iodence (7-2) went 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, with two strikeouts and one walk.

In the second game, Ty Manumaleuna scored CCSN's run on a fielder's choice.

Bryce Massanari and J.C. Leach went 2-for-3 for the Coyotes.

• CCSN SOFTBALL -- Kelly Griego led off the ninth inning with a home run, giving the Coyotes a 5-4 victory and a split with Salt Lake Community College at Russell Road Recreation Complex.

CCSN (28-14, 24-12 Scenic West) lost the first game, 2-1.

In the win, Griego finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

In the first game, Maritza Espinoza had an RBI single in the seventh inning for CCSN's run.
