Aztecs extend the lead

San Diego State scored the only points of the second quarter to take a 21-7 lead over UNLV into the locker room at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Kyle Watson missed a 38-yard field goal midway through the quarter at the end of a promising UNLV drive. It was the beginning of a bad stretch for the Rebels.

San Diego State went right back down the field and extended its lead with a 1-yard touchdown run by Brandon Sullivan. It was a six-play, 79-yard drive that took just 2:47.

UNLV came right back down the field with a drive of its own, but Omar Clayton tossed a throw up for grabs in the end zone that was intercepted by Jerry Milling for a touchback with 1:20 remaining in the quarter.

Channing Trotter has 48 yards and UNLV’s lone touchdown. Omar Clayton picked up his numbers a bit and is 11-for-18 for 125 yards, but he threw two interceptions in the half. One of those picks was returned for a touchdown.

Ryan Lindley is an identical 11-for-18 for the Aztecs, but he threw for 181 yards and a touchdown.

Correction
San Diego State’s sports information director incorrectly reported that the Aztecs had returned an interception for a touchdown against UNLV in five straight meetings between the schools.

We apologize for the error and should have figured that stat was too unbelievable to print.

It is actually six straight meetings that they have accomplished the feat, a truly remarkable stat.

Philosophy
If two bad teams play in front of an empty stadium and nobody’s there to see it, did it ever really matter?

The turnout for this game by the fans is downright pathetic, but the lack of media in the press box is even more inexcusable.

There are so few members of the media here that it is freezing cold in the press box.

Ordinarily, the amount of bodies in the room keeps the temperature fairly warm.

Reporters and television personalities are trying to find two sticks to rub together up here during halftime.
