Beavers lead at halftime

Rebels trail at the break

In a surprisingly low-scoring game, Oregon State leads UNLV 6-0 at halftime. The Beavers scored the lone points of the game on a touchdown pass from Sean Canfield to Brady Camp with just 1:04 to play in the second quarter.

Canfield has completed 11 of 12 pass attempts for 79 yards and a score, but has been sacked twice. The Rebels have done a great job containing Jacquizz Rodgers, holding the superstar running back to just 35 yards on 10 carries.

UNLV has had even less success running the ball, however. The Rebels managed just 36 yards on the ground as a team on 15 carries in the half. Omar Clayton has found some success throwing the ball, completing 12 of 17 for 120, but he threw an interception and Rodelin Anthony fumbled after catching a pass deep in Oregon State territory.

Rodgers did add five catches for the Beavers, but if UNLV can continue to limit his effectiveness in the running game, they should have a chance to win in the second half. Oregon State will receive the second half kickoff.

Ugly Score

Oregon State ran a play-action pass on third-and-goal from inside the 1-yard line. The play had disaster written all over it for the Beavers, but just as Sean Canfield was hit in the backfield, he heaved up a pass that seemed to hang in the air for several seconds. It somehow fluttered into the hands of Brady Camp for a touchdown. The Beavers did, however, miss the extra point.

Not Quite The Highlight He Wanted

Rodelin Anthony tried to make a tremendous play to get the Rebels a first down midway through the second quarter. After catching a pass on a crossing pattern, Anthony approached a defender about two yards short of the first down.

Expecting the tackler to go low, Anthony jumped in the air hoping to leap over the attempt. Instead, the defender waited back and unloaded a punishing blow on the receiver and forcing a fumble. The turnover prevented UNLV from trying a field goal that could have given it the first points of the game. Instead, Oregon State took the ball and drove the length of the field for a touchdown.

Wolfe in Rebel clothing

Ryan Wolfe made a pair of spectacular plays on UNLV’s first drive of the second quarter. On a third down play in Rebel territory, the senior caught a pass about five yards short of the first-down marker, but dragged what turned out to be four defenders all the way to the spot to keep the drive alive. Two plays later, Wolfe got behind the defense, then leapt over his defender to snag an underthrown pass out of the air for a 35-yard gain. Wolfe caught four passes on the drive that ended on Anthony’s fumble deep in Oregon State territory.

Beauchamp Enters

UNLV senior linebacker was a gametime decision with a sprained ankle. He missed the entire first quarter, but did enter the game during Oregon State’s touchdown drive. It remains unclear how much he will be available the rest of the way.
