Air Force no match for Rebels

The UNLV women's tennis team closed the regular season with a 7-0 sweep of Air Force on Sunday in a neutral-site match, played at San Diego State's Aztec Tennis Center.

The Rebels (14-8, 6-2 Mountain West Conference) swept the three doubles matches for the first point, including a win from the 48th-ranked duo of Elena Gantcheva and Kristina Nedeltcheva. The twosome improved to 8-0 in conference.

UNLV didn't drop a set in singles play, with the 35th-ranked Gantcheva (27-10, 7-1 MWC) posting a 6-2, 6-0 win over Christine Abayan at No. 1 singles to lead the way.

* BASEBALL -- At Fort Worth, Texas, UNLV let a 2-1 lead slip away in the ninth, then lost to Texas Christian 3-2 in 10 innings.

Hunt Woodruff's RBI single in the ninth off UNLV closer Adam Moser tied the game for TCU (23-12, 8-4 MWC). In the 10th, Moser hit Bryan Holaday, then threw a wild pitch to put Holaday in scoring position. Jimmie Phar's RBI single ended the game.

Braden Walker had an RBI single for UNLV (14-19, 5-7), and Michael Brenly had an RBI sacrifice fly.

Rebels starter Thomas Whitsett went 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits.

* TRACK AND FIELD -- At Los Angeles, Brittney Bullocks finished second in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 55.15 seconds at the Bruin Invitational, held Friday and Saturday.

Lekeisha Lawson was second in the 100, Lauren Johnson was fourth in the 100. Kenya Polee was third in the long jump.

UNLV took fourth in the 4x100 relay.
