Bayardi powers UNLV baseball past Tulane, 4-3

Left fielder Brandon Bayardi was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and scored twice to lead UNLV to a 4-3 baseball victory over Tulane on Friday at New Orleans.
Third baseman R.J. Arnold had two RBIs for the Rebels (21-13).
Tanner Peters (4-2) got the victory, allowing two runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. Brady Zuniga went the final 3 1/3 innings to gain his second save.
■ UNLV WOMEN'S GOLF -- The Rebels are fourth after two rounds of the Mountain West Conference Championship at Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, Calif.
UNLV is at 37-over-par 613 after a round of 17-over 305, trailing leader New Mexico by 16 shots and Texas Christian and Colorado State by five.
Junior Therese Koelbaek is tied for sixth and seven strokes off the lead at 8-over 152 after her second straight 76.
■ UNLV WOMEN'S TENNIS -- The Rebels (18-3, 5-1 MWC) posted their sixth shutout of the season, beating Colorado State 7-0 in San Diego.
Senior Kristina Nedeltcheva extended her school record in doubles wins to 94, teaming with Jana Albers for an 8-4 win.
■ UNLV MEN'S TENNIS -- The Rebels lost to Utah 4-3 in Salt Lake City. UNLV (12-9, 2-2 MWC) won the doubles point by taking two of three matches but lost four of six in singles.
■ UNLV TRACK AND FIELD -- Rebels sophomore Amanda Bingson finished third in the hammer throw at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., with a distance of 193 feet, 1 inch to break her school record of 185-5.
■ CSN BASEBALL -- At Carson City, the second-ranked Coyotes were swept by No. 11 Western Nevada, 5-3 and 6-5 in 11 innings.
Trent Cook's three-run homer in the fourth inning accounted for all of CSN's scoring in the opener, which Western Nevada won with a walk-off three-run homer in the seventh.
In the second game, Gabe Weidenaar carried the Coyotes (32-9, 20-6 Scenic West) by going 4-for-5 with a solo homer. His two-run single in the ninth gave CSN a 5-3 lead, but Western Nevada (34-8, 21-5) tied it again and won with a bases-loaded single in the 11th.
■ CSN SOFTBALL -- At Rangely, Colo., the Coyotes (24-15, 20-13 Scenic West) swept Colorado Northwestern CC, 7-2 and 20-1. Shelbie Medrano struck out eight and won the opener, and Samantha Powell fanned three in the second game.
