Freshman McInerney paces UNLV in Jack Nicklaus tourney

The ninth-ranked UNLV men's golf team had a difficult couple of days at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in Dublin, Ohio, but still came away with two solid individual performances while taking 10th in the 11-team field.

UNLV freshman AJ McInerney shot his second straight 1-over 73 on Tuesday for a 2-over 146 total, tied for second with Purdue's Adam Schenk, six shots behind runaway winner Greg Eason of Central Florida. The Rebels' Kevin Penner (75) tied for ninth at 150.

Kent State took the team title at 29-over 605, three shots ahead of Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt. UNLV posted a 48-over 624 total.

■ WOMEN'S GOLF - UNLV stood sixth after two rounds of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash. UNLV shot 13-over 301 for a 33-over 609 total heading into today's final round of the 16-team event.

Dana Finkelstein shot 1-under 71 to lead UNLV and was tied for 12th individually at 5-over 149, with teammate Demi Mak (75) one stroke back in a tie for 15th.

Washington led the team standings at 10-over 586, paced by individual leader SooBin Kim, who shot 5-under 67 for a 6-under 138 total.
