Pullin’s bases-clearing double sends Rebels to baseball victory

Remington Pullin hit a two-out, three-run double in the eighth to cap a four-run inning and give UNLV a 7-6 victory over Air Force on Saturday in a Mountain West Conference baseball game at Wilson Stadium.
Brandon Bayardi hit a two-run homer in the first for the Rebels (19-21, 4-10 MWC), who have won the first two games of the three-game series. UNLV totaled eight hits, with eight players getting one apiece.
Brady Zuniga (1-0) got the victory in relief, allowing one run, three hits, no walks and striking out five in 2 2/3 innings. Zack Hartman worked around a leadoff single in the ninth to gain his sixth save of the season and second in two days.
Air Force (9-27, 3-10) scored five runs - two earned - off UNLV starter Zak Qualls, who gave up six hits, four walks and struck out three in 5 1/3 innings.
■ UNLV WOMEN'S GOLF - The Rebels shot an 18-over-par 306 in the second round and are tied for fourth in the Mountain West Conference Championship at Wigwam Resort Gold Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
UNLV is at 41-over 617 in the 54-hole tournament. Defending champion Texas Christian leads at 603, followed by San Diego State (608), Colorado State (616) and UNLV and New Mexico.
TCU's Sanna Nuutinen has the individual at 1-under 143, three strokes better than San Diego State's Christine Won.
The Rebels' Dana Finkelstein is tied for sixth at 149, Mayko Chwen Wang is 14th at 153, Bethany Calvo is 16th at 155, and Charlotte Brooks and Katerina Prorokova are tied for 28th at 162. Finkelstein and Wang were named the MWC's co-freshmen of the year Friday.
■ UNLV TRACK AND FIELD - The 3200-meter relay team of Laura Affeld, Courtney Allen, Alison Bartosch and Corey Honeycutt finished first in 9 minutes, 9.41 seconds at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
■ CSN BASEBALL - The College of Southern Nevada lost 8-4 and 1-0 to Western Nevada in Scenic West Athletic Conference action at Carson City.
In the first game, Jordan Van Hoosier homered and doubled and Sean McCracken had two hits for the Coyotes (29-19, 16-16 SWAC). In the second game, CSN pitcher AJ Daley allowed only two hits, but one was a home run to Neil Lawhorn in the sixth inning.
■ CSN SOFTBALL - The Coyotes rolled to 10-1 and 18-0 SWAC victories over Colorado Northwestern in Rangely, Colo. Alicia Firelein hit two homers and Erin Romero and Desiree Laswell one apiece for CSN (21-31, 16-24).
