UNLV baseball rumbles to victory over Hawaii

The UNLV baseball team piled up five first-inning runs and five more in the fifth inning, rolling over Hawaii 12-4 on Sunday at Wilson Stadium.
Justin Jones had a two-run single in the first-inning outburst, the Rebels added a run in the second and third innings, and T.J. White laced a two-run triple to fuel the fifth-inning spree as UNLV (9-3) took a 12-0 lead.
Hawaii didn’t get on the board until the last two innings, with two runs in the eighth and two in the ninth.
UNLV starter Kenny Oakley allowed five hits and a walk, with five strikeouts, in 6 2/3 shutout innings.
■ UNLV SOFTBALL — The Rebels lost to New Mexico State 5-3 to wrap up the Eller Media Stadium Classic. UNLV (7-13) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, on a misplayed fly ball and a throwing error, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
