UNLV men’s swimmers in 25th place after first day of NCAA championships
UNLV stands in 25th place with 10 points after the first day of the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Bloomington, Ind.
The Rebels got their points with a 12th-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay on Thursday. The UNLV quartet of Henrique Machado, David Szele, Cody Roberts and Samuel Lameynardie were timed in 3 minutes, 9.08 seconds, earning honorable mention All-American honors.
In other UNLV news, the men’s tennis team won its seventh straight match, defeating UNR 5-2 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in the Mountain West opener for both teams. The Rebels (12-4) are 11-0 at home this season.
UNLV took two of three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead, then won four of six in singles. The Rebels wore patches with the initials “MB” on their sleeves to honor former UNLV star Mehdi Bouras, who died suddenly March 21 at age 24.
Pitcher Amanda Oliveto allowed only two runs — both in the first inning — but the junior received no support in a 2-0 loss to Colorado State in the Rebels’ Mountain West softball opener at Fort Collins, Colo.
Oliveto (12-10) gave up four hits and one walk and struck out eight for UNLV (14-19), which managed only two hits.
And the UNLV track and field team got a fourth-place finish from its 4x800-meter relay team at the Texas Relays in Austin. The quartet of Corey Honeycutt, Laura Affeld, Auzsane Crowe-Carter and Kelsey Williamson clocked a time of 8:58.42.
