UNLV women move up to third in MW golf

UNLV posted the best second-round team score and moved up from sixth to third place at the Mountain West women’s golf championships at Rancho Mirage, Calif. Friday.

The Rebels, who have a two-day team total of 593, are three shots behind first-place New Mexico and one stroke behind second-place Fresno State heading into Saturday’s final round at Mission Hills Country Club. San Jose State is in fourth place, one shot in back of UNLV at 594.

Junior Dana Finkelstein had a 3-under 69 in her second round, finishing with birdies on two of her final three holes. Freshman Avery French bounced back from an opening round 77 with an even par 72 in round two. Sophomore Mayko Chwen Wang also played better in her second round, finishing with a 3-over 75 after an opening-round 79. Senior Demi Mak had a 2-over 74 for the second straight day.
