UNLV women’s golf in eighth at Longhorn Invitational

The UNLV women's golf team shot its second straight 10-over 298 on Tuesday for a 20-over 596 total through two rounds of the Longhorn Invitational at Austin, Texas. The Rebels stood eighth in the 15-team field, 23 strokes behind co-leaders Florida and Alabama (3-under 573).
Dana Finkelstein shot 73 to lead the Rebels at 1-over 145, tied for 17th, seven strokes behind individual leaders Camilla Hedberg of Florida and Jennifer Kirby of Alabama. The final round is today.
■ VOLLEYBALL - Setter Kinsey Caldwell was named Mountain West Conference player of the week after helping UNLV beat host New Mexico 3-1 on Thursday. Caldwell, a freshman, had 41 assists and 10 digs for her 11th double-double of the season.
■ MEN'S SOCCER - Defender Mike Mota was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's soccer player of the week after leading UNLV to an overtime upset of Air Force on Friday.
The Rebels trailed 2-1 midway through the second half when Mota converted a free kick to tie it. An Air Force foul in overtime gave UNLV another free kick, which Mota again planted in the back of the net.
