UNLV women’s golf still in second at Farms event

The UNLV women’s golf team maintained its spot in second place at The Farms Invitational in San Diego, shooting 10-over 298 Monday in the second round for a 24-over 600 total. Southern California shot 1-over 289 to remain in first at 11-over 587, with Arizona and Pepperdine tied for third at 604 in the 15-team event.

Dana Finkelstein paced the Rebels, shooting 1-over 73 to jump from a tie for 19th to a tie for ninth at 5-over 149. Teammates Charlotte Brooks (75) and Mayko Chwen Wang (76) were right behind Finkelstein at 150, tied for 12th, and Demi Mak (74) was tied for 18th at 151.

USC’s Sophia Popov shot 3-under 69, moving from eighth to first with a 1-under 143 total.

■ BASEBALL — UNLV batterymates Collin Yelich and Erick Fedde earned Mountain West baseball player and pitcher of the week honors, respectively.

Yelich, a freshman catcher, hit .455 last week and drove in the winning runs in two games against Air Force. Fedde, a sophomore right-hander from Las Vegas, pitched a complete game and struck out 10 batters in the Rebels’ 4-1 win over the Falcons on Friday.
