Rebels-Cowboys, but few fans

For a game that has so much riding on the outcome, it’s amazing how empty Sam Boyd Stadium is.
With 4-6 UNLV set to kickoff against 4-6 Wyoming, only a few hundred warm bodies are occupying seats. Perhaps the turnstile count will increase once the clock actually starts.
Everyone knows the Rebels need to win tonight and next Saturday at San Diego State to have a shot at a bowl game. But Wyoming has just as much to play for. A Cowboys' win tonight and a win over Colorado State at Laramie next Saturday in the annual Border War game and Wyoming becomes bowl-eligible.
If that should happen, perhaps they can give Phil Fulmer a New Mexico Bowl watch for his Tennessee team laying down like a bunch of sorry dogs last week in Knoxville.

SANFORD TO HAWAII?
Yeah, that’ll get your attention. But the reality is UNLV’s beleaguered head coach isn’t going to the Islands. However, out of respect for seniors Johan Asiafa, Sifa Moaia, Dack Ishii and George Fa’avae, who are of Hawaiian or Polynesian descent in them, Sanford is wearing a lei tonight as he patrols the sidelines and beyond.
In all, 16 seniors were honored prior to kickoff. Too bad so few fans were there to say thanks.

SECOND TIME AROUND
Now that QB Mike Clausen has the jitters worked out, can he duplicate last week’s 203-yard passing performance? Wyoming has just seven interceptions this year and look for Clausen to try to exploit the Cowboys’ secondary along with forcing their linebackers to cover pass routes in the flat.
