Rebels trail after first quarter

Luke Laolagi returned an Omar Clayton interception 55 yards for a touchdown to put San Diego State in front of UNLV 14-7 at the end of the first quarter at Sam Boyd Stadium.

UNLV scored first on the opening possession, but the Aztecs responded with 14 unanswered points.

Channing Trotter ran for 46 yards and a touchdown in the quarter for UNLV, but Clayton completed just 2 of 8 passes for 21 yards and an interception.

Good start

Deante’ Purvis ran the opening kickoff back 55 yards to the San Diego State 36-yard line.

It took the UNLV offense just three plays to cash in as Channing Trotter ran in a 29-yard touchdown to put the Rebels out front.

The lead didn’t last long. After the offenses traded punts, San Diego State went right down the field to tie the score.

No worries on the roadways

The fans that were concerned about all the traffic making its way down Tropicana from the Thomas & Mack Center to Sam Boyd Stadium were treated to a pleasant surprise.

There were zero traffic concerns on the way into the football game.

Apparently all the UNLV are too busy celebrating the basketball team’s win over Louisville to make the trek westward.

There is nobody at the football game. In fact, there may have been more people at yesterday’s UFL game.

Celebrating a career

Ryan Wolfe is missing tonight’s game, which was scheduled to be the last of his remarkable UNLV career.

He was injured during practice last week.

The senior wide receiver ends his time at the school as the No. 12 receiver in NCAA history.

As part of the senior night festivities, Wolfe made the long walk out to midfield for the ceremony.

He had to use crutches, but dropped them for the photo with his parents and Mike Sanford.

Getting old

The interception return by San Diego State in the first quarter was nothing new for the Aztecs in this series.

In fact, it marked the five straight season a San Diego State player has returned an interception for a touchdown against UNLV.

That is the same five seasons that Mike Sanford has been the coach of UNLV.
