Snow could be a factor
AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — Until just a few minutes ago, it looked as if UNLV would certainly play what might be the first snow game in school history. That could still happen with a storm blowing through the Rocky Mountains.
The Rebels were greeted with snow flurries this morning, and the white stuff really picked up about an hour before 3 p.m. PST game time at Air Force.
But now the snow appears to have stopped.
UNLV interim athletic director Jerry Koloskie, who has been at the school for 26 years, said he doesn't ever remember the Rebels playing in a snow game.
Visibility has increased some, but not enough for probably the Mountain West Conference's best pre-game tradition — the flyover. The temperature is 33 degrees with a 20-degree wind chill.
There is a chance the Rebels won't be able to fly home tonight considering the low visibility. The trick could be finding enough hotel rooms.
CLOSING IN
Defensive end/linebacker Jason Beauchamp is nine tackles behind second place on UNLV's career list. Beau Bell currently occupies that spot with 320 stops.
No one is catching leader Adam Seward's 433 tackles any time soon.
NOT LOOKING GOOD
UNLV linebacker Ronnie Paulo (knee) was expected to play, but still hasn't been cleared less than 20 minutes before kickoff.
TRYING TO STAY ALIVE
UNLV (4-6, 2-4 MWC) needs to win today and at home against San Diego State in two weeks to become bowl eligible. For Air Force (6-4, 4-2), it's a matter of which bowl, probably the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas.
