UNLV athletics cuts work hours of 46 staff members
UNLV is reducing the hours of 46 employees in its athletic department because of the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic, the school announced Friday afternoon.
The school said that it is expecting to save $1.2 million as a result of the reductions.
Duties of the 46 employees involved live events or the coordination of travel. Thomas & Mack Center is not in use, and fall sports were postponed last month — meaning no travel for Rebels teams.
Athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois said in a statement the school hopes to retain the employees on a full-time basis when live events return to campus.
A school spokesperson said that none of UNLV’s coaches are facing a reduction in hours, and noted that the 46 employees did not have a student-athlete support focus. The spokesperson also affirmed that the school doesn’t plan to cut any athletic programs despite the constraints of the pandemic.
