Brigham Young women pull away from Lady Rebels

Brigham Young's women's basketball team used a 17-2 spurt to pull away from UNLV and gain a 76-60 victory in the Mountain West Conference on Saturday at Provo, Utah.

The Lady Rebels hung close for 25 minutes. Erica Helms made three 3-pointers early in the second half, helping UNLV (10-13, 3-6 MWC) tie the game at 40. But BYU (15-6, 6-3), which made 10 of its first 20 3-pointers and finished 11-for-25 from the arc, scored 13 consecutive points during the clinching run.

Helms finished with 19 points and Kelli Thompson 14 for UNLV, which shot 30 percent (18 of 60).

Haley Hall had 22 points for the Cougars, who shot 48.4 percent (30 of 62).
