FINAL: UNLV 92, Southeastern Louisiana 56
Chace Stanback scored 10 points and hit the biggest shot in UNLV's 92-56 blowout victory over Southeastern Louisiana tonight at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Rebels had made at least one 3-point shot in an NCAA-record 772 consecutive games, a streak dating to 1986, but the record was in jeopardy midway through the second half. UNLV was 0-for-7 from 3-point range until Stanback buried a deep shot from the left corner with 7:26 remaining, extending the streak to 773 and drawing a loud roar from the crowd.
Sophomore guard Anthony Marshall scored 14 points and junior center Brice Massamba had 12 points and five rebounds for UNLV. Massamba's nine points lifted the Rebels to a 44-29 halftime lead.
The hot 3-point shooting of Trent Hutchin and Brandon Fortenberry kept the Lions close for most of the firsthalf. Fortenberry's 3 put Southeastern Louisiana ahead 21-20 with nine minutes left, but the Rebels answered with a 10-0 run.
Eleven players scored for UNLV, including Justin Hawkins (11 points) freshman Karam Mashour (10).
The Rebels (2-0) host Wisconsin at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Hutchin (18 points) and Fortenberry (16) each made four 3-pointers for the Lions (1-1).
