Findlay sophomore changes mind on Rebels commitment

Findlay Prep sophomore guard Nigel Williams-Goss has reopened his recruitment, his father, Virgil Williams-Goss, said.

Nigel Williams-Goss originally committed to UNLV on Dec. 15, but has decided to reconsider his options after former Rebels coach Lon Kruger left for Oklahoma on April 1.

Virgil Williams-Goss said he and his family are hoping to meet with new Rebels coach Dave Rice in the next week.

"(Nigel) had almost a year of getting to know Coach Kruger before he committed," Virgil Williams-Goss said.

Along with UNLV, Virgil Williams-Goss said his son is considering scholarship offers from Washington, Oregon, Oregon State and UCLA, among other schools.

Kruger also recruited Grandy Glaze, a 6-foot-6-inch forward from Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass. Glaze signed a letter of intent with UNLV in November.

n KENTUCKY -- Bob Knight has apologized to the school and coach John Calipari after claiming that several Wildcats players did not attend spring semester classes last year.

During a speaking engagement in Indiana last weekend, the Hall of Fame coach and college basketball analyst for ESPN blasted Calipari's habit of recruiting players who spend just a year on campus before bolting for the NBA.

Knight said in a brief statement released by ESPN: "My overall point is that 'one-and-dones' are not healthy for college basketball. I should not have made it personal to Kentucky and its players, and I apologize."

The Wildcats went 35-3 during the 2009-10 season, after which freshmen John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe and Daniel Orton left school for the NBA.

In a related matter, Kentucky freshman Doron Lamb will not be a "one-and-done."

The 6-4 guard announced he will return for his sophomore season. Lamb averaged 12.3 points and shot 48 percent from 3-point range for the Wildcats while helping them to their first Final Four appearance in 13 years.

n KANSAS -- Forward Thomas Robinson was cited for misdemeanor battery after a fight at a nightclub, the latest headache for the Jayhawks.

Lawrence, Kan., city prosecutor Jerry Little said Robinson is accused of being involved in an altercation outside the club April 10. He said officers served Robinson with the ticket Monday.

Police said the case remains under investigation and other people could be charged. Coach Bill Self said Robinson notified him immediately after being interviewed by police.

"Thomas is fully cooperating, and we will not have any further comment about this situation as the investigation plays out," Self said.

n NORTHWESTERN -- Junior forward John Shurna, who averaged 16.6 points per game last season, declared for the NBA Draft. He has not hired an agent, meaning he could return to school.
