First-half run carries Utes past Lady Rebels

The Utah women's basketball team closed the first half with a 16-2 run to blow open a tight game en route to a 71-52 victory over UNLV on Tuesday at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City.

Kelli Thompson, the lone Lady Rebel to score in double figures, had 18 points but shot only 4-for-17 from the field.

UNLV (9-13, 2-6 Mountain West) took its final lead of the night, 17-16, on Markiell Styles' basket with 7:31 to play in the first half.

The Utes (11-1, 4-4) then surged to a 32-19 halftime lead with Michelle Plouffe and Iwalani Rodrigues scoring six points apiece during the run.

Utah opened the second half with four consecutive points, and the Lady Rebels never got closer than 14 the rest of the way.
