Hey Reb, who the heck is St. Katherine, anyway?

If you don’t know a whole lot about UNLV’s opponent on Friday night, don’t worry.

Even Siri has a hard time coming up with anything substantial about the St. Katherine College basketball team.

There is some information out there, though.

First of all, the nickname for the school in San Marcos, Calif., is the Firebirds.

St. Katherine is 1-7 this season in official games, including an 81-43 loss to University of Mary in the only home game thus far.

The Firebirds also played a game against UC Riverside, which counted for Riverside but was recorded as an exhibition for St. Katherine.

It didn’t go so well.

The Firebirds lost that contest, 102-49 on Nov. 23. So basically St. Katherine is not very good. The diminished home-court edge provided by the Orleans Arena, if there is one considering UNLV is 9-1 in the building, isn’t likely to matter.

If Rashad Vaughn is going to miss a game with the back injury he sustained against Arizona State, this is probably the right time for it happen for UNLV.
