Jerry Tarkanian admitted to hospital, resting in ICU

Hall of Fame basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian is back in the hospital after waking up Wednesday morning struggling with his breathing, coughing and suffering from low blood pressure.

Tarkanian, 84, was admitted to Valley Hospital Medical Center and was resting comfortably in the intensive care unit.

“He was having trouble (breathing) when he woke up this morning, and he had been battling a cough, which he was on medication for,” said Tarkanian’s wife, Lois. “At his age, you have to watch him carefully, and the doctors thought it was best for him to go to the hospital where the best care is available.”

Tarkanian, who coached 19 years at UNLV and led the Rebels to four Final Fours, including the 1990 national championship, was a 2013 inductee into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. In April, he was a patient at Valley for 10 days after suffering a mild heart attack.
