Lady Rebels fall to New Mexico

The UNLV women's basketball team couldn't overcome a barrage of first-half 3-pointers from New Mexico, losing to the Lobos 75-49 Wednesday in Albuquerque, N.M., in the Mountain West Conference opener for both teams.

New Mexico hit eight 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes to open a 48-22 halftime bulge, and the Lady Rebels (7-7) got no closer than 22 points the rest of the way.

Shamela Hampton led UNLV with 14 points and 11 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. Dominique Harris added 10 points, and Jamie Smith had six points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Rebels shot 33.3 percent from the field.

Eileen Weissmann and Amy Beggin each had 13 points for the Lobos (12-2).

UNLV next hosts Texas Christian at 3 p.m. Saturday.
