Lady Rebels’ rally falls short vs. Rams

The UNLV women's basketball team erased a late eight-point deficit in less than a minute Tuesday night, but Colorado State still held off the Lady Rebels for a 68-63 victory in Fort Collins, Colo.

Colorado State went on a 6-0 run and led 61-53 with 2:24 left. But UNLV responded with a Tia Morrison layup, then forced three turnovers in 10 seconds and scored off all three. Jamie Smith's two free throws tied the score at 61 with 1:31 left.

The Rams (9-8, 2-2 Mountain West Conference) finished the game with a 7-2 surge.

Sandrine Nzeukou and Erica Helms led the Lady Rebels (8-11, 1-4) with 13 points apiece, and Kelli Thompson added 10. Mia Bell had nine points and seven assists, and Smith tied her career best with eight steals.

Kim Mestdagh led Colorado State with 25 points, going 6-for-11 from 3-point range.
