Lady Rebels top Prairie View A&M, move into final of Cal Classic

The UNLV women's basketball team had five players score in double figures to beat Prairie View A&M 73-60 to open the four-team Cal Classic on Saturday in Berkeley, Calif.
In today's final, UNLV (7-1) will meet host California, which beat Cal State Bakersfield, 86-56.
Kelli Thompson led the Lady Rebels with 17 points, hitting 10 of 12 free throws, and Jamie Smith had 13 points. Lenita Sanford and Mia Bell scored 12 apiece, and Markiell Styles had 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
UNLV led throughout the game, pushing it to 40-30 with 12:43 left. But the Lady Panthers (1-6) got within 45-41 with nine minutes left after an 11-5 run.
Smith hit a 3-pointer to start a 7-2 run for the Lady Rebels, putting them up 59-49, and Prairie View got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.
UNLV had a huge edge at the free-throw line, making 31 of 35 (88.6 percent). Prairie View went 17 of 21 (81 percent) from the line.
