Miller considering options after firing

In her first public comments since being fired Friday as the UNLV women's basketball coach, Regina Miller made it clear she has retained a lawyer.

"The timing of my abrupt departure from UNLV came as a surprise to me," Miller said Wednesday in a statement. "Through advice of my legal counsel, I'm in the process of considering all of my options. Therefore, for now I am unable to comment beyond this statement."

Attempts to reach UNLV athletic director Mike Hamrick were unsuccessful.

Miller said she waited to make a statement because she didn't want to divert attention from the men's basketball team, which won the Mountain West Conference Tournament last weekend to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.

Miller went 175-125 in 10 seasons, taking UNLV to the postseason six times. The Lady Rebels played in the NCAA Tournament in 2002 and made the championship game of the Women's National Invitation Tournament in 2004.

But after eight consecutive winning seasons, UNLV posted back-to-back losing records, including this season's 8-22 mark.

"I thoroughly enjoyed working at UNLV as head women's basketball coach over the past 10 years, and I'm proud of the accomplishments we were able to achieve," Miller said. "I wish the program much continued success."
