As the clocked ticked toward midnight Thursday, Lon Kruger said he expected to return as UNLV’s basketball coach. Shortly after dawn, he had an unexpected change of heart and mind.
After what he called “a crazy day of travel,” UNLV basketball coach Lon Kruger said he has no plans to leave Las Vegas permanently.
The easy thing would be to overreact because, well, that was one good ol’ fashioned butt whipping. UNLV’s basketball team got what it deserved in an NCAA Tournament game here Friday evening, thoroughly out-classed by Illinois at every spot and in every way.
With an opportunity to make a bold statement on a national stage, UNLV instead made an embarrassing one. It left Oscar Bellfield at a loss for words.
