Thompson sends Lady Rebels past Colorado State

Kelli Thompson scored a career-high 27 points, and Jamie Smith had 19 points and 12 rebounds as the UNLV women's basketball team beat Colorado State 72-60 on Saturday at Cox Pavilion.

The Lady Rebels (10-17, 3-10 Mountain West Conference) ended a six-game slide and beat the Rams (12-13, 5-7) for the first time in the past seven meetings.

UNLV led 37-27 at halftime and pushed the lead to 16 with 14 minutes remaining. A 10-0 Colorado State run made it 49-43, but the Lady Rebels responded with a 9-3 stretch on 3-pointers from Smith and India Chaney, followed by a three-point play from Smith to go up 58-46.

Thompson shot 9-for-17 from the floor, including 4-for-9 from 3-point range, with six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
