Torrid second-half shooting lifts San Diego State to 76-61 win over Lady Rebels

San Diego State shot 70.8 percent from the field in the second half en route to a 76-61 victory over UNLV on Tuesday night in a Mountain West women’s basketball game in San Diego.

The Lady Rebels (13-15, 10-7 MW) lost their second straight game and fell into a fifth-place tie in the conference with Wyoming. They had won five in a row and seven of eight before losing to the Cowgirls and Aztecs.

UNLV shot 19 of 58 (32.8 percent) from the field and 15 of 30 (50.0) from the free-throw line, while San Diego State (11-17, 8-9) hit 29 of 57 (50.9) and 14 of 17 (82.4). The Aztecs hit 17 of 24 second-half shots.

Alana Cesarz scored a game-high 19 points and had eight rebounds for the Lady Rebels. Danielle Miller scored 18 but hit only 4 of 21 field-goal attempts and 8 of 15 from the line.

UNLV trailed by as many as 24 points, 63-39 with 6:01 remaining.

Erimma Amarikwa led San Diego State with 16 points and 12 rebounds, one of four players in double figures.

The Lady Rebels end the regular season against San Jose State at 5 p.m. Friday at Cox Pavilion. Seniors Cesarz, Miller and Briana Charles will be honored before the game.
