UNLV rallies to beat Air Force, 64-52

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — Oscar Bellfield and Justin Hawkins each made a 3-pointer during a late run as UNLV rallied from a second-half deficit to defeat Air Force 64-52 at Clune Arena.

Chace Stanback scored 18 points, and Bellfield and Anthony Marshall had 12 apiece for the Rebels. Hawkins finished with 10 points.

UNLV (14-4, 2-2 Mountain West Conference) trailed 50-45 before closing with a 19-2 run.

The Falcons took a 37-30 lead on a 3-pointer by Mike Fitzgerald four minutes into the second half.

Marshall picked up his fourth foul with 15:29 left and went to the bench. Hawkins filled the void by sinking a 3 to pull the Rebels within 41-40 with 12:04 to go.

Derrick Jasper made a key defensive play by blocking a shot, and the Rebels raced to the other end and Hawkins hit a 3 from the corner to tie the score at 50.

A steal by Hawkins that led to Marshall free throw, and two free throws by Bellfeld put UNLV ahead 53-50 with 4:41 left.

Tom Fow scored 12 points to lead the Falcons (10-6, 1-2).

The Rebels finished 6-for-24 from 3-point range after shooting 1-for-12 in the first half.

HALFTIME REPORT

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Derek Brooks scored four points in the final minute to lift Air Force to a 28-23 halftime lead over UNLV in a slow-paced Mountain West Conference game at Clune Arena.

Anthony Marshall’s eight points led the Rebels (13-4, 1-2). Marshall’s pull-up jumper put UNLV on top 21-20 with 3:17 left before the Falcons rallied to close the half.

Tom Fow scored nine points for Air Force, which shot 10-for-21 from the field. The Rebels were plagued by poor perimeter shooting, hitting 1 of 12 from 3-point range.

UNLV is playing without senior guard Tre’Von Willis, who remained in Las Vegas to receive treatment on a sore right knee.
