Big recruiting weekend next for UNLV football

Running back Dionza Bradford first committed to play football at UNLV but switched to San Diego State after coach Mike Sanford was fired in November.

But with coach Bobby Hauck now in charge of the Rebels, Bradford is reconsidering UNLV. Bradford, who attends Serrano High School in Phelan, Calif., is one of 13 high school recruits visiting UNLV this weekend.

"I'm still interested in UNLV," Bradford said. "That's why I'm going out there. If I like it, I'll make a decision.

"I like they have a new offensive coordinator (Rob Phenicie) and new offense they're going to be running. I think their program is about to turn around."

Bradford (6 feet, 200 pounds) is rated by Rivals.com as a three-star prospect and the nation's No. 69 running back. Scout.com gives two stars to Bradford, who last season rushed for 1,347 yards and 17 touchdowns despite missing three games because of a sprained ankle.

He is one of three running backs visiting. The others are Tim Cornett of Houston's North Shore and Kahlil Keys of Casa Grande in Petaluma, Calif.

Cornett (6-0, 195) is a Rivals three-star prospect who rushed for 1,569 yards and 13 touchdowns, including a 167-yard effort against Texas power Southlake Carroll. Keys (5-11, 200), who has received scholarship offers from Yale and Cornell, totaled 1,246 yards and 16 TDs.

Also visiting: wide receivers Kurt Davis (6-5, 205) of Centennial (Compton, Calif.), Tajh Hasson (6-2, 185) of Cathedral (Los Angeles), Tre Johnson (6-6, 190) of Hug (Reno) and Bo Tully (6-1, 180) of Mead (Spokane, Wash.); defensive tackles Quentin Jones (6-0, 315) of Northland (Columbus, Ohio) and Kjelby Oiland (6-4, 270) of Ferris (Spokane); offensive linemen Nick Martin (6-5, 265) of Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), Trevor Poole (6-5, 250) of Ferris and Brian Roth (6-5, 270) of El Toro (Lake Forest, Calif.); and cornerback Kenny Penny (6-0, 170) of Lancaster (Texas).

If Hug's Johnson commits to the Rebels, they will have nabbed a player from UNR's backyard. He caught 33 passes for 593 yards and three touchdowns and on defense intercepted seven passes.

Another notable receiver, Centennial's Davis, has been offered football scholarships by Utah and Colorado and basketball scholarships by UNR, Pepperdine and San Jose State. Rivals and Scout rate him a three-star football prospect.
