Cheyenne football star Sullivan commits to UNLV

UNLV continued to make headway with local football recruits, receiving a commitment Thursday from Cheyenne High School's Marcus Sullivan.

The 5-foot-9-inch, 165-pound Sullivan rushed for 1,643 yards and 20 touchdowns this year for the Desert Shields, earning Sunset Region Offensive Player of the Year honors, but will play wide receiver or H-back with the Rebels.

He caught 12 passes for 411 yards and seven TDs this season and was rated a two-star prospect by rivals.com.

Sullivan said he chose the Rebels over Wyoming, adding that he was impressed by UNLV's "program and academics." He said he planned to major in sports management.

Sullivan is the third local high school player to commit to the Rebels' 2009 recruiting class, joining Bishop Gorman safety Charles Childers and Spring Valley defensive tackle Nate Holloway.

UNLV could add another local recruit if safety Jarrell Harrison commits. The Palo Verde product and former Rebels signee is being highly recruited out of City College of San Francisco and is visiting UNLV this weekend.

Harrison said he also is considering Missouri and North Carolina State and would decide by Tuesday.
